Specimen Tracking
Specimens that identify themselves
Each specimen gets a barcoded accession number at collection. Scan it anywhere in the lab and the order, the patient and the tests come up.
What it does
Built into the day-to-day
- Barcoded accession number per specimen
- One sample per specimen type, generated from the order
- Pipeline: awaiting collection, collected, received
- Rejections recorded with a reason
- Patient and requested tests on every sample
Where the work happens
The forms and views behind it
The screens your staff actually use to run this, and what each one saves them.
The specimen pipeline
Pending, collected, received and rejected in one view, rejections carry their reason.
What still needs collecting
The awaiting-collection tab is the phlebotomist's worklist for the ward round.
Questions
Frequently asked
What happens to a rejected specimen?
It is marked rejected with a reason, haemolysed, insufficient volume, so the ward knows to recollect rather than wait.
